The ISCBC 2023 Forum brought together invasive species practitioners, Indigenous leaders, local and provincial government representatives, academics, researchers, youth and volunteers over two and a half days of informative sessions in New Westminster, B.C. Experts shared the latest best practices, leading-edge invasive species research, and local government initiatives. The goal was to empower participants with practical, cutting-edge information, to inspire them with powerful examples of collaboration, and to leave them with optimism, reminding them of the great difference their work is making in protecting BC’s rich and biodiverse landscapes and waterways.

Seed 2 Leaf Environmental’s CEO Daryl Wright attended the Invasive Species Council BC 2023 Conference and had the opportunity to present his research on an Indigenous Led Framework. His presentation was a call to action for governments to address the gaps in Indigenous IAS regulations and support systems which will lead to a better “Early Detection and Rapid Response” strategy. It was also a learning opportunity to see a well coordinated Invasive Species Council organization which included significant Indigenous participation.
